Baking Pan Size Converter
Compare pans by area (or volume for bundt pans) and scale your batter to match.
Common pan areas
| Pan | Area | vs 9-inch round |
|---|---|---|
| 8-inch round | 50 sq in | 0.79× |
| 9-inch round | 64 sq in | 1.00× |
| 10-inch round | 79 sq in | 1.23× |
| 8 × 8-inch square | 64 sq in | 1.01× |
| 9 × 9-inch square | 81 sq in | 1.27× |
| 9 × 13-inch rectangle | 117 sq in | 1.84× |
| 8 1/2 × 4 1/2-inch loaf | 38 sq in | 0.60× |
| 9 × 5-inch loaf | 45 sq in | 0.71× |
Area = π × radius² for rounds, length × width otherwise. Measure across the top inside edge. For bundt and tube pans, measure capacity by filling with water one cup at a time — sizes vary a lot by manufacturer.
Bake-time guidance
If you keep the batter depth the same, the bake time usually stays close to the original. Deeper batter generally needs a lower temperature and a longer bake; shallower batter bakes faster. Because every oven and pan is different, treat any time as a starting point: check early, and use a toothpick, skewer or thermometer to judge doneness. Dark metal and glass pans tend to brown faster than light metal.
